“my SECOND skin”

You are my second skin
One with me – we mesh
Underneath the soul within

…Far beyond where there is flesh

And you are my next of kin
Rarest of the rare –
Extent of your loss, what then?

…More than my heart could bear

My second skin and my first love
You’re what I thirst love in the inner me…

…And my burst of higher energy

Savoring you protects me when
Earnest devotion begins to believe
Companionship is rejecting a friend – I grieve
Once emotion is worn on my sleeve
Not that you’d abandon ship of this I can be sure
Destiny stitched the layers weaved…

…There is nothing about us impure

So in this context we blend
Kindred spirits through & through
I see you as my second skin
Notably thicker to insulate me from a colder view…

…You breathe in me a warm second wind
And blow me away by you just being you

“Let Me Tell You This”

Editor’s Note: When my sister passed away after a brief illness last September, I was devastated. Tony Haynes wrote this poem and sent it to me. The acrostic is my sister’s name (Lenora Speller) and the poem is written from her perspective. I’m publishing it because it is beautiful, and it makes me feel better as I continue to deal with this terrible loss. I thought that someone else might benefit from it, too.

L et me tell you this
E verlasting life is bliss
N othing can compare to
O ur days in the air to
R evel in glory with our Lord
And receive a life’s reward

S o let me tell you this
P eacefully I send a kiss
E xtending out my heart to
L ove you though apart through
L ife & afterlife but way up here
E very thing is oh, so clear
R est assured I’m always near …

… And I’ll always hear you
Our special bond it will exist
Now until forever, it is true I tell you this.

Now Dancing with the Angels

If Words Could Heal

If words could heal
For the record would they?

Words appeal but could they heal us? Could they?
Our words can offer
Remedies when written
Divine prophetic healing
Softly spoken

Curse or bless?
Our sentence did or didn’t
Un-break a heart that had been badly broken?
Love resides in words that set the soul at ease
Diseases can be healed through words like these

How I love you – how I need you now
Every day I think of you as a cherished friend
And I pray that you’ll be healed somehow
Let’s speak it into existence…

…Let the healing begin
